The Norwegian Institute for Defence Studies (IFS) is one of the largest institutions in Scandinavia specialising in defence and security research. IFS is an independent institute and part of the Norwegian Defence University College. The principal purpose of the Institute is to conduct research into the problem areas Norwegian security policies and Defence in a sociological perspective.
Defence and Security Studies is an English-language peer-reviewed monographic series, published quarterly. The series provides in-depth studies of a broad range of topics within defence policy and security relations. Geographically it covers Northern-Europe as well as the transatlantic and Euro-Asian regions. Thematically it focuses on the conduct of military and civilian crisis management operations, as well as relations within and between security actors such as NATO, the EU and the UN. It welcomes contributions from historians, political scientists, scholars of international relations and war/security studies, as well as scholars from other disciplines or practitioners in the above mentioned fields.
Oslo Files on Defence and Security is the institute series of IFS, and is included in subscription to Defence and Security Studies. Oslo Files provides all kinds of research within the institutes sphere of interest, and is published in either English or a Scandinavian language.
Forsvarsstudier and IFS Info were the institute series of IFS until 2007. Forsvarsstudier was published in the period from 1987, while IFS Info was published in the period from 1991. Publications from these series can be ordered from our extensive backlist.
